Dynamic Group Builder
Designed a scalable rule-based group management experience that simplified workforce administration, accelerated stakeholder validation through AI-assisted prototyping, and demonstrated first-degree alignment across the Intertek SaaS platform.
The Challenge

Large enterprise customers relied on manually maintained groups to assign training, filter reports, and manage users. Over time, departments, job titles, supervisors, shifts, and other employee attributes were all stored as traditional groups, creating thousands of duplicate and overlapping records that made reporting, automation, and administration increasingly difficult. Customer feedback consistently pointed to the need for a more structured, scalable approach.

The Solution

Instead of manually maintaining thousands of employee groups, administrators simply define the rules once and memberships stay up to date automatically.
Working from an existing product concept, I redesigned the experience into a modern rule-based workflow that allowed administrators to define employee membership using reusable conditions instead of manually maintaining groups.
Using Visual Studio Code with GitHub Copilot, I rapidly built interactive prototypes that closely mirrored the final product, allowing stakeholders to validate complex workflows long before engineering implementation. The experience also served as one of the first products to demonstrate first-degree visual alignment using the Intertek design token system and my Degrees of Separation (DoS) framework.
RESULTS
Dynamic Groups successfully completed beta with multiple enterprise customers and received overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Customers also discovered unexpected value by using Dynamic Groups to uncover HRIS data quality issues within their own organizations. Because memberships updated automatically in the background, the feature eliminated much of the manual effort traditionally required to maintain employee groups.
Outcomes
- Replaced manually maintained groups with scalable rule-based automation.
- Accelerated stakeholder alignment using AI-assisted interactive prototypes.
- Demonstrated first-degree product alignment through the Intertek design token system and DoS framework.
- Reduced design iteration cycles by validating complex workflows before engineering implementation.
- Enabled a platform capability supporting Learning Plans, reporting, filtering, and future automation across Manager.
Dynamic Groups demonstrated how thoughtful UX, reusable design systems, and AI-assisted prototyping can accelerate complex enterprise software while improving scalability, maintainability, and customer adoption.
